Commas always go inside the quotations:

In the book, "Of Mice and Men," the main...

I'm guessing on the second one that "He told..him" is the quote, not commentary, so page numbers are always inside the sentence, and the quotations are always around the quote:

"He told me to shoot him" (pg. 43).

Basic MLA grammar you should probably memorize.

All of this is only if you're following MLA format:

If you're typing the paper, it's okay to have the title of the book in italics if you don't like to underline. Just make sure you're consistent whatever you do. Therefore, whether the comma is inside or outside the quotation marks is immaterial. Generally, though, the comma goes inside the quotation marks.

For the quotation, make sure the period goes at the end of everything. It should read: "He told me to shoot him" (43).

Part One:

Book titles are underlined, not quoted. Also, the comma does NOT go inside the quote where there is a title. The comma ONLY goes inside the quote where there is a speaker involved. For example:

"I am going to the store," Sally said.

The poem, "The Raven", was written by Edgar Allen Poe.

Notice the comma went outside of the quotes of the poem's

title, not inside.

Part Two:

(pg. 43) is not part of the quote. The actual quote is "He told me to shoot him." Therefore, it should read, "He told me to shoot him." (pg. 43)

classes and commas pass interior citation marks, regardless of logic, interior the US. the reason? Printers discovered that those marks have been broken on the printing press in the event that they weren't buttresses via the textual content cloth they observed and stood on my own as fragile factors. Exclamation marks and question marks, to boot as colons and semi-colons, no longer being as frail, save on with logic. In England, the place single expenses are used, this rule would not save on with. it style of feels loopy to think of that printers could make certain quite than save on with punctuation, yet such is existence.
